The J.W. Hampton Company was founded in 1960 by John W. Hampton and son Johnny C. Hampton of Deep Gap, North Carolina. By the mid 1990′s, the company had grown to a 15 employee, mid-sized grading & excavating operation servicing Watauga, Ashe, Wilkes, Avery, and Alleghany Counties. The company incorporated in 1985. Johnny’s daughter, Cherie M. Hampton joined the company in 1997. She obtained her building and heavy highway contractor’s license and became majority owner of the corporation in 2009.
In September of 2011, The J.W. Hampton Company became one of the few NCDOT certified bidder and subcontractor, women-owned businesses.
